Who We Are
-
More Art, More Life is a Black-led arts and culture organization building creative, relational, and cultural power, with Black Detroiters ages 18–35 at the center.
-
We create recurring spaces where people make art, form meaningful relationships, and shape cultural life together. Through gatherings, artist-led programs, and opportunities to contribute and lead, MAML supports everyday creative practice, strengthens community ties, and helps shared ideas grow into projects, experiences, and new possibilities.
We invest in artists whose work brings people together, gives form to shared experiences, and expands what communities can imagine and build.
-
Young adulthood can be deeply isolating.
Many people age out of youth programs without finding new spaces for creativity, friendship, and community. Artists often face limited access to space, resources, audiences, and sustained support.
In Detroit, these gaps are shaped by longstanding inequities in access to affordable creative space, cultural resources, and sustained support for Black artists and neighborhood institutions
Strong communities need art. They also need spaces where people can encounter one another, exchange ideas, create shared memories, and imagine what is possible together.
MAML intervenes by creating places people can return to, build fuller creative lives, and generate collective power over time.
